Why Counseling?

A Personalized Approach
to Healing and Growth

You deserve more than simply getting through each day. You deserve to feel safe, connected, and confident in the life you’re building.

At Lowcountry Counseling Services, therapy is a collaborative process grounded in trust, compassion, and a genuine understanding of your experiences. Whether you’re working through painful memories, navigating anxiety, or struggling to reconnect in a relationship, you’ll find a supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and respected.

Using evidence-based approaches, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), we’ll work together to understand what’s keeping you stuck, develop healthier patterns, and create meaningful, lasting change.

Your past is part of your story, but it doesn’t have to define your future.

Trauma Therapy (EMDR)

Specialized treatment for trauma and PTSD, including EMDR — an evidence-based approach that helps the brain reprocess painful memories so they lose their hold on the present. Parke is a Certified EMDR Therapist. Treatment begins with understanding your history, identifying goals, and preparing before processing difficult memories. Regular sessions are available in person or by telehealth; extended in-person intensives are offered in Mount Pleasant and the Grand Rapids area.

The Therapist

Meet Parke Smith

I’m Parke Smith, founder of Lowcountry Counseling Services. I’m a counselor and a Certified EMDR Therapist, and I’ve been doing this work since 2008. I help adults and couples get unstuck — whether what’s weighing on you is trauma that keeps resurfacing, anxiety that won’t quiet down, a relationship that’s lost its footing, or work pressure you can’t leave at the office.

In our sessions, I integrate mindfulness and body awareness with traditional psychotherapy. I don’t treat you as a list of symptoms — I believe symptoms carry a deeper story, and we’ll explore yours with curiosity and compassion, at a pace that respects where you are. Past clients have described me as empathic, encouraging, and empowering.

Choosing the right therapist matters. Request a free consultation, and we’ll talk through your questions and make sure this is the right fit.
