Focused trauma therapy with Parke Smith
If an experience is over but still shapes how you feel today, it can be difficult to know where to begin. At Lowcountry Counseling Services, you can discuss EMDR therapy with Parke Smith, MS, LPC, NCC, a Certified EMDR Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina and Michigan.
Greenville appointments are available in person at 405 Pettigru St, Greenville, SC 29601, or through telehealth while you are located in South Carolina. This page covers local appointment arrangements. For a fuller explanation of the therapy itself, visit our EMDR and trauma therapy guide.
What you can bring to the first conversation
You may be dealing with painful memories, anxiety connected to past experiences, or reactions that are affecting daily life and relationships. You do not need to decide on a treatment method before contacting the practice. The initial conversation is a place to explain what you are hoping will change and ask whether EMDR might be a suitable part of your care.
You will not be expected to give a detailed account of everything that happened during a free consultation. Parke will discuss your concerns and practical questions, then help you understand the next step.
How EMDR sessions begin
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. Sessions involve more than eye movements: treatment begins with understanding your history, identifying goals, and preparing for the work. Readiness and pacing are discussed before processing difficult memories.
During processing, a therapist may use side-to-side eye movements, tapping, or tones while you briefly attend to a memory. You remain awake and can ask to pause. The approach and pace are adapted to your needs; a consultation cannot promise a particular outcome or number of sessions.
Your first appointment
The first appointment focuses on getting to know you, discussing what brings you in, and developing a plan. Questions about your history and current support help guide that conversation. You can ask how preparation, processing, and the end-of-session check-in will work before deciding how to proceed.
In-person EMDR in Greenville or South Carolina telehealth
Regular EMDR appointments can take place at the Greenville office or online. Discuss your preferred format, your physical location during sessions, and any practical needs when arranging care. If you choose telehealth, ask about the setup and how the therapist will work with you remotely.
All in-person visits are by appointment. Call the Greenville office at 864-214-4221 to ask about arrangements, or view the Greenville office details and map.
Fees, insurance, and scheduling
Regular EMDR sessions cost $200 for 60 minutes. The practice is private pay and does not bill insurance. A sliding scale may be available for weekly sessions; discuss availability before scheduling. You have the right to request a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges.
Begin with a free 15-minute phone consultation. Choose a time in the online scheduler and provide the phone number where you can be reached. Consultation requests are confirmed by email after review.
Looking for an EMDR intensive?
Greenville offers regular EMDR appointments. In-person intensives are held at the Mount Pleasant, South Carolina office and the Wyoming office in the Grand Rapids area, Michigan.
Intensives start at $900 for a half day, with weekend pricing quoted individually. Follow-up is included. Sliding-scale pricing does not apply to intensives. If you are considering traveling for an intensive, discuss suitability, preparation, appointment availability, and the expected fee before making travel arrangements. Read the intensive details.
Questions about EMDR in Greenville
Do I have to choose EMDR before my consultation?
No. Explain what you are looking for and ask about the available approaches. The consultation helps you decide whether to arrange an initial appointment; it does not commit you to a course of therapy.
How many sessions will I need?
That depends on your goals, history, readiness, and how the work progresses. Parke will discuss an initial plan with you and revisit it rather than promise a fixed timeline.
Can I ask about other counseling services?
Yes. The practice also offers individual therapy, couples counseling, and executive counseling. Your first conversation can help clarify which service best fits your needs.
